Emptor, the Latin noun for "buyer", is a holding company focused on facilitating transactions on the Internet.
Founded in 1997, by Andrew Boer and Andre Marquis, Emptor was one of the first person-to-person payment companies. Similar in many ways to Paypal, Emptor envisioned a method where buyers and sellers could seamlessly conduct financial transactions over the web, particularly on classified ad and auction marketplaces.
In 1998, Emptor developed Accept.com, which was funded by AT&T Ventures, Kleiner Perkins and Benchmark Capital. Accept.com was acquired by Amazon in 1999, and became the backbone of their Amazon Payments Program.
Emptor currently operates MovableMedia.com, a custom content agency for authors with audiences.
